Bad Karma/Good Karma

For the past three months, I've been trying to put a hex on this other Athena. She's wicked fast. Before and after every race, I point my pinky and index finger at her, and mumble under my breath "lose weight lose weight lose weight lose weight" hoping she won't qualify any more for the division. Not in a sickly Stephen King "Thinner" sort of way, but in a healthy way, that she's happy about. It's the nicest way I can think of to eliminate serious competition.

In an add, Karmic way, I think it's backfiring. The scale this morning said 158. Another 9 pounds and I won't be in the division. And, it's only May and I've been L-A-Z-Y.

  1. Woo, graduating from Athena status? What will you call your blog then??

I'm still a long way from that. I'm quite safe this season. Like, nobody will insist that I weigh in or anything. Maybe next year....

  2. Dunno. Maybe skinny Athena?
Maybe I'll eat some donuts and it won't be an issue. I usually drop weight pretty quickly in the spring, but I wasn't expecting it this soon. Last year I went from 194 to 164 between January and March, and then stopped. Can you tell my ancestors were from northern Europe?

  3. are you seriously complaining about losing weight? while i enjoy the athena competition, if i could get out of it and just run my age group, i would be one happy camper!!! i'm going to start using your hex on other athenas in the hope that I start losing the weight, and not them.

  4. So what's the cut-off for Athena? And do they make you weigh-in before the race-or is it an "on your honor" kind of thing? I was just curious. But congrats for being "on the cusp" (I think) of not being an athena anymore????!!!!

  5. Hee! I am currently Athena by .4 pounds. I am seriously debating with myself about whether or not to try to lose it. ;)

  6. Looks like we were thinking the same thing today as evidenced by our posts. Also, I didn't read your previous post until today, sorry, I've been bad. Just wanted you to know that it was very thought provoking and insightful. I hope writing it helped you somehow.

Just so you know, I was a Clydesdale for two years, and am now an age grouper. Trust me, I'd rather be last in my age group than weight pounds more and race as a Clydesdale. Take care
